Thank you everyone who came to Star Market, if any one of you is reading this. Sorry for being an old man who just has a website. I was very happily surprised by the attendance of the event, sales went pretty good, had some nice chats, and I finally have a somewhat photogenic display.

I'll be at Närcon Expo in November!


It's been fun having Artist Alley as a project. After Expo I'll probably take a little break until spring at least, I've been churning out printables for months and the moment I got home from Star Market I started roughing up a set of 4 new prints. I'm pretty happy with the size of events I've been tabling at, Expo will be my biggest and I'm not really interested in bigger for now. Probably never going to Närcon proper, way too big, far away, expensive, not really my type of event. But maybe I'll change my mind.

Haven't actually broken even on my spending yet, mostly because I decided to custom order stickers for this latest event because I wasn't confident in what paper to get for printing at home. I also faffed about wasting a bunch of supplies from a Vevor buttonmaker order too lol. Got recommended a sticker paper I'm interested in though and I'm not planning to do any spending other than ink or paper for a while, so let's see how the stonks look after Expo. (Don't ask me about how I've been thinking "hm, what if I upgraded my decade old canon pixma to an ecotank. what if it was an a3 ecotank" that's future me's problem.) I'm not really in this to make a profit and I haven't expected to so far, but getting as close to breaking even as possible would still be nice lol. It's just been nice having this as a little thing to do to motivate myself, get outside chat with some people and other artists.

I put "lesbians and furries" on my business card that I threw together in 2 minutes for Star Market, and I really need to increase my furry drawing output. I feel like it's false advertising, I'm sorry, I really do emotionally favor furry drawings but I just draw way too much normal anime and game fan art. Going to draw Hatsune Miku as a fox. All my own characters are funny animals and I've actually been motivated to do some work on that stuff again, developing some more characters, I've actually started prototyping in RPGMaker the past month...!

Linux check-in?

It's been about a year since I abandoned Windows. Had a brand new custom built midrange machine since January too before costs exploded even more. I'm happy to just be off Windows, emotionally. Every time a computer at work struggles to open the start menu I feel my blood pressure rising. I'm mostly happy on Mint, but I'm also at a level where I feel comfortable enough at least navigating Ubuntu systems to try something else in the future. My computer got hit by the recent 7.0.0. kernel wonkiness and I've been having an on and off issue where it doesn't power off on shutdown sometimes. Minor annoyance mostly I guess.

I'm definitely lucky in that I'm not reliant on Windows or Mac-specific software, so making the switch wasn't a difficult choice. I will say Krita has tried my patience a lot. Maybe it's hardware compatibility issues, I have pretty recent AMD stuff, but had crashing issues for ages before I finally decided to try a nightly release, and performance still isn't amazing. Getting error messages is still a pretty normal occurence. Why is the text tool like that. Did you know Krita doesn't have a print menu? It used to but they removed it because "Professionals don't print at home". I felt like I was fine switching off Clip Studio because I draw with flat colors and don't need anything much more complicated than a magic wand tool, but boy was it a bumpy ride on here for a while. Sympathize with everyone who relies on CSP's heavyduty tools, especially with the recent controversies, it's hard out there.

I've been so fired up about drawing I haven't had much time for media for a while... Been "working on" a FF7 PS1 replay for like two months but whenever I'm not drawing I keep wanting to let my hands rest... I want to give a shoutout to Valkyrie Saga which I played some months back, awesome little indie exploratory platformer. Been trying to at least watch one movie a week too, and finally watched D.E.B.S. and One Cut of the Dead for the first time and they've both changed my life.
